From the Principal’s Office
Dearest Families,
The flowers are blooming, the days are growing longer, and the birds are singing. Yes, spring is in the air! And with the warmer weather comes more moments for learning! More outdoor time will create more opportunities for gross motor skill practice and environmental learning. In our outdoor environments we have added our Merryhill Preschool Garden, a natural tree stump dramatic play area with a mystical fairy cover, wooden blocks, and large legos to give the children more activities for outdoor play and exploration! The weather is perfect now and we finally have more water to help our garden grow this year! The children have been helping take care of the garden too. We already have sweet peas to eat, and lots of fresh herbs to taste and smell!! Come and take a look when you get a chance at the outdoor additions mentioned above!! We love parent donations and parent help to build things, so if you have some “outdoor environment” items to share or would like to build for us, please let me know! There are lots of enriching ideas on Pinterest…search “outdoor environments for young children” to get some ideas if you want to help!
Also, if anyone knows of an easy and quick way to create calendar invites or some kind of scheduling app to help parents keep everything straight please come and see me. I want to try something new to help parents keep track of all the awesomeness at our school. My goal is to make things easier for parents to get reminders and prevent them from having to look back at my newsletters that can be like reading a novel 🙂
Important head’s up! The Lunch Master catering company is taking one week off for Spring Break. Merryhill is still open, but they will not have lunch services for the week of April 10th – 14th! Everyone will need to pack their lunch for that week. Please remember that we are a NUT FREE SCHOOL!! Do not pack any products with nuts in them because we have children that are deathly allergic to nuts!
In March we celebrated the love of reading in many ways! This week was our “Scholastic Book Fair”. We are doing a fantastic job at almost meeting our goal of selling 200 books! We have sold a total of 173 books which earned each classroom tons of free books for the students to enjoy. BUT…if we sell 30 more, the children will be able to “Paint the Principal” in an outdoor activity to celebrate our success! That is right; they will actually get a paint brush and paint me with our school paint! Thank you for your support! Come prepared on Wednesday April 5th, at 4:30 with your cameras to watch the fun **if we make our goal**!
We have several exciting events going on this month that will help to incorporate outdoor learning. One is our annual Trike-a-Thon on April 28th at 9:15 am. This event helps raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Plus, the children get to race around the track in the back yard with their friends. Great gross motor exercise, for a great cause! More details to come.
We will also celebrate the children in our lives with “The Week of the Young Child” April 24 – 28. We have a fun week planned! More details will come later with specific events and times. This is a very special week that we plan fun events and activities every day for the children! We will have live performances, a petting zoo and much more!
For our graduating Pre-K students, do you know where you are going to send your child for the summer? Merryhill Elementary and Middle School has a great summer camp program for you!
For those children who are graduating to Kindergarten in the new school year, visit the Elementary front office for information on how to reserve your spot for the new school year! Contact the Elementary Principal for more details. Her name is Karen Cooper. contact number: 408-254-1282, email: karen.cooper@nlcinc.com.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns my door is always open. We are here to help you and “our” children in any way we can. Everyone at Merryhill is special and important to us. Let us continue to make this a great school year!
