From the Principal’s Office
Dearest Families,
The flowers are blooming, the days are growing longer, and the birds are singing. Yes, spring is in the air! With all of the rain we had in March and now the sunshine, a fresh garden in our back yard will kick off Spring nicely! This month the children, teachers and I will plant herbs to taste and smell, veggies to eat and do projects with, and colorful flowers to look at and draw! This garden will give us more real life learning experiences to incorporate with our Link to Learning curriculum!
And with the warmer weather comes more moments for learning! More outdoor time will create more opportunities for gross motor skill practice and environmental learning. In our outdoor environments we have our Merryhill Preschool Garden, a natural tree stump dramatic play area with a mystical fairy cover, mud kitchen, wooden blocks, and large legos to give the children more activities for outdoor play and exploration!
In the month of March we celebrated the love of reading in many ways! The “Scholastic Book Fair” was one of them. We met our goal of selling 200 books! Since the children met the goal they were able to “silly string” me on March 7th.
We have several exciting events going on this month that will help to incorporate outdoor learning. One is our annual Trike-a-Thon on April 20th at 9:15 am. This event helps raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Plus, the children get to race around the track in the back yard with their friends. Great gross motor exercise, for a great cause! More details to come.
We will also celebrate the children in our lives with “The Week of the Young Child” April 16th – 20th. We have a fun week planned! Monday is Disney’s “Co Co” movie on the big screen, Tuesday is a “Magic Show”, Wednesday is the “Puppet Show”, and Thursday is “Pony Rides”. This is a very special week that we plan fun events and activities every day for the children! See calendar below for more details on times of these events.
For our graduating Pre-K students, do you know where you are going to send your child for the summer? Merryhill Elementary and Middle School has a great summer camp program for you!
For those children who are graduating to Kindergarten in the new school year, visit the Elementary front office for information on how to reserve your spot for the new school year! Contact the Elementary Principal for more details. Her name is Karen Cooper. Contact number: 408-254-1282, email: karen.cooper@nlcinc.com. Or, the Elementary Vice Principal Joan Sousae at joan.sousae@nlcinc.com.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns my door is always open. We are here to help you and “our” children in any way we can. Everyone at Merryhill is special and important to us. Let us continue to make this a great school year!

Your Merryhill Preschool Principal,
Heather Bilbro Palmer
