Dearest Families,
The flowers are blooming, the days are growing longer, and the birds are singing. Yes, spring is in the air! With all of the rain we had in March and now the sunshine, a fresh garden in our back yard will kick off Spring nicely! This month the children, teachers and I will plant herbs to taste and smell, veggies to eat and make projects with, and colorful flowers to look at and draw! This garden will give us more real life learning experiences to incorporate with our Links to Learning curriculum!
Looking back, in March we celebrated the love of reading in many ways! We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday by inviting a special Unicorn to come to the school and read books to the children. Our “Scholastic Book Fair” was another celebration for the love of reading. We did not make our goal of selling 250 books, but that is OK because we can try again in the Fall! The teachers earned free books from the Book Fair, though. With the amount of sales from our Books Fair we earned $130.00 worth of free books per classroom.
We have several exciting events going on this month that will help to incorporate outdoor learning. One is our annual Trike-a-Thon on April 12th at 9:15 am. This event helps raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Have you turned in your St Jude’s fundraising form yet. Plus, the children get to race around the track in the back yard with their friends. Great gross motor exercise, for a great cause!
We are also celebrating the children in our lives with “The Week of the Young Child” April 8th – 12th. We have a fun week planned! Monday is “Incredible’s 2” movie on the big screen, Tuesday is a “Bug Show”, Wednesday is the “Puppet Show”, and Thursday is “Magic Show”. This is a very special week that we plan fun events and activities every day for the children! See calendar below for more details on times of these events.
For our graduating Pre-K students, do you know where you are going to send your child for the summer? Merryhill Elementary and Middle School has a great summer camp program for you!
For those children who are graduating to Kindergarten in the new school year, visit the Elementary front office for information on how to reserve your spot for the new school year! Contact the Elementary Principal for more details. Her name is Karen Cooper. Contact number: 408-254-1282, email: karen.cooper@nlcinc.com. Or, the Elementary Vice Principal Joan Sousae at joan.sousae@nlcinc.com.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns my door is always open. We are here to help you and “our” children in any way we can. Everyone at Merryhill is special and important to us. Let us continue to make this a great school year!
