Christmas Performances

The Nutcracker and the 4 Realms of Merryhill Preschool

This month we will have our annual Christmas Performances on Friday, Dec 20, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. This year we will start promptly at 3:00 pm with a story about Clara and the Nutcracker trying to find the key to the Kingdom in the 4 realms of Merryhill Preschool. Clara and the Nutcracker will go through each classroom which is setup in 4 different realms (see below). Come and join us through this magical show as we search for the Kingdom key to Clara’s family.

Here are the times for those tentative performances.

Beginners: Mrs. Spring and Mrs. Sandhya’ class will perform at 3:15 pm (Land of the Sweets)

Intermediate 1: Mrs. Mai and Mrs. Linda will perform at 3:25 pm (Land of the Christmas Trees)

Intermediate 2: Mrs. Happy and Mrs. Suneetha’s class will perform at 3:35 pm (Land of the Snowflakes)

Prek2: Mrs. Teresa and Mrs. Nidhi’s class will perform at  3:45 pm (Land of Amusements)

Parents are encouraged to bring snacks to share with their child’s classroom.

Operation Christmas Child

Every year our students talk about hunger and basic needs awareness. Our students collect basic needs items such as socks, shoes, clothing, toys, educational supplies, and etc. for a child in the same age group as themselves. They sort all the items during a “Packing Party” and pack enough to fill a shoebox for their international friends overseas. I am happy to announce that our students packed 100 boxes! Thank you parents for your donations. Look out in your local newspaper for the full story! Here are some pictures.

Christmas in the Park Fieldtrip for Prek2

Address191-199 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95113

During our Thanksgiving Dinner our families decorated their own family ornament. The teachers took these ornaments and decorated our Merryhill Preschool Tree at Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose, CA.

We have a challenge for our students: They need to find our Merryhill Preschool Tree and the Merryhill Elementary Tree and take a picture in front of the trees. Then email me a copy of the picture at lucy.nunez@nlcinc.com and your child will be entered in a raffle to win a prize.

Lil Shoppers

This year we are doing something a little different for our students. We will be teaching our students the value of money and buying a gift off a shopping list. We will be setting up a Lil’ Shopper’s Shoppe in the dramatic play area for our students to shop during a specific time designated to their class. We will be announcing the dates soon in December.  The timings will be from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (closed during naptime). Please look out for a flyer and a shopping list that will go home on Monday, Dec 9, 2019 with your child. You can send money with your child or purchase a gift certificate online that can be used the same as cash. We ask that all money or certificates be put in the tuition box along with the shopping list OR to the office. Happy Shopping!

Report cards and Parent Teacher Conferences

Thank you for coming to our parent/teacher conferences. We had more than 70% of our parents come to the conferences. Please look out for the next conferences in March of 2020.

Reading Program

Reading Program/Homework  is meant to be a positive experience for your child. Its not mandatory to do the homework. The program was created for a social emotional development experience. Setting aside a specific time daily for your children reduces behavioral issues in the long run. We are just giving parents some activities to do during this time.  Please set aside a 20-30 minutes per night for your Prek or Prek2 child  and 10-20 minutes for Intermediates. If your child is refusing to practice writing, there are other alternatives; playdough, legos, setting up the table, folding laundry, helping to wash dishes, or clean off the dinner table. All these activities use their small motor skills and they are still building their muscles in their fingers. The book does not need to be read per verbatim. Have your child try and guess what is happening in the book. If your children want to talk with you about something this is also a good time to do so. Let us know if you are needing support.

Prek2 Uniforms

Uniforms can be purchased from the website below for the Prek2 class:

The bottoms can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or Durable wear uniforms and must be either navy blue or khaki. The tops must be purchased from Queensboro uniforms and can be light blue, hunter green, or burgundy. You can have items shipped here to avoid shipping charges. All students are required to wear uniforms in the Prek2 classroom Monday through Thursday. On Friday they get a free dress day. If you are planning to continue our Merryhill Elementary, it is recommended to purchase the burgundy shirts.

Genius Kids

They will be teaching our students how to play basketball. Please look for signups which will be sent via tadpoles sometime in January 2020.
