Dearest Merryhill families,
In October we may or may not have our Lifetouch Picture Day. We have not made the final decision for this, but if we do, families will need to sign a consent form to take pictures. We will not take your child’s picture without your approval to do so first.
Get ready for a “Spook-Tacular” month!
Halloween fun is here, and I wanted to inform you of the special events we have here at Merryhill Preschool during this time of year. Even though this year is unlike all other years, we have planned “Spook-Tacular” activities for the Fall Fun! Starting off we will have our annual Pumpkin Patch at our playground on October 21st at your child’s AM outside recess time. Each child will pick their very own pumpkin to take home. The school will provide the pumpkins at no extra cost. One of the most exciting events that happen each year is our annual Halloween Parade. Here at Merryhill Preschool in San Jose, we normally make our own costumes. We design and craft them here at school with the help of the children and teachers. This year we will not be able to do this, but please don’t worry, we are going to have fun with their “store bought” costumes from home! Please have your child bring in a costume from home for our Halloween Parade that will be held on Friday, October 30th at the morning recess time. Unfortunately, at this time we will not be able to invite you inside to watch, but we will take pictures and share with you through the Link2Home app.
On November 11th our school will be closed for our Parent/Teacher Conferences. There will be no school for the children on this day, but the teachers will be here to “Zoom” conference with you. Parent/Teacher conferences will not be “in-person”, but through “Zoom” only. We will have sign-up sheets for you to pick a time for your child’s “Zoom” conference. These sign up sheets will be located at the check-in table by October 22nd.
Did you know? Car seats expire…check your car seat and make sure it is not expired…
FAMILY FUN: There will be a Dinosaur Drive-thru event being held at the Alameda County Fair in November. We know that a lot of our students LOVE dinosaurs, so we wanted to pass this information along. The link for information on the event is below.

Quick reminders:
*It is back to school time now and there are a few more families using the parking lot. Please be careful while driving in the parking lot. Do not speed, stay off your cell phone, and do not park in areas that are not designated for parking. Parking inside of the parking lot, along a curb is not allowed and it gives very little room for people driving through the parking lot to get by, especially if there is a delivery truck parked in our lot.
*Please remember to check in and out every day on the iPad. This is extremely important because we use this for attendance in case of an emergency. If you forget your code, or if the pickup person forgets their code, you can sign on the old fashion “paper form” for the sign in and out sheet located at the check in table.
*PG&E has pushed the construction start date tentatively out to October 12th – 23rd. They are helping contain the fires up north and will not be available to start next week. I will continue to keep you posted on the status of their work in our parking lot.
*One last reminder, please put your sheet and blanket for nap time in a sealed bag or container labeled with your child’s name. Thank you for your cooperation 😊
Important Note From the Elementary School Principal:
For our older siblings that are eligible for the Elementary School level, visit the front office for information on how to reserve your seat! Our Elementary side has opened for “on-campus” schooling and we would love to have you join us! You can always schedule a “Zoom” tour, or an “after hours” personal tour (by appointment only) with Ms. Sousae. Please contact the Elementary Principal for more details. Her name is Joan Sousae and her contact number is 408-254-1282. You can also reach her at joan.sousae@merryhillschool.com
As always if you have any questions or concerns my door is always open. We are here to help you and “our” children in any way we can. Everyone at Merryhill is special and important to us. Let us continue to make this an amazing school year! We can do this together! We are strong!
