Message from the Principal
Dear Merryhill Families,
For us, June is always so bitter sweet. As we say goodbye to old families and students, we welcome with open arms our new families and friends. Even though we go through this experience on an annual basis, it does not seem to get any easier.
Watching your children grow over this past year has been so fulfilling to me. From morning hugs to play yard ball games, each of your children have touched my heart! I am so excited for what we have upcoming this month, and I know you will be too!
On a very happy note, I am pleased to announce to all that we are going to have BRAND NEW play structures and shade installed on BOTH of our playgrounds. We will bid our “beloved” wood chips goodbye and welcome artificial turf and rubber “Pour & Play”. I know that this will bring a smile to your faces. I want you to also keep your eyes posted for the upcoming schedule of upgrades and improvements we will be tackling this summer when attendance is lower.
Outside of the physical changes to the building, please remember as we start our new year and wrap up this year, it is important to be as prepared as possible for this social/emotional transition ahead. Please know you are welcome to ask as many questions as necessary to familiarize yourself with your child’s new classroom and teachers. I am always available to help you. For your convenience, we have dedicated the evening of Wednesday, June 17th to an Ice Cream Social during pick up times of 4:00—6:00 PM. This “meet & greet” event is less formal, and more of a dedicated moment for you to be able to meet your child’s teacher.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Jherica McEndree

Beginner 1 Classroom
Hi Beginner parents.
This is our last month together with our Beginner 1 class of the 2014-2015 school year. We have had a wonderful year watching our friends grow and learn more each day. During June we will continue to
practice our past skills along with new skills to get the children ready for their next classroom. During June we will read some exciting new books including A Summery Saturday Morning, Beach Day, Zigby Camps Out and for our last week the children will help pick one of their favorite books. During the week we read A
Summery Saturday Morning the children will practice telling a simple story from sequenced pictures using
pictures from our story that we copied. “We will give each child one picture and go around the circle and ask what is happening in the picture you have?” During our week reading Zigby Camps Out we will have a pretend campout during nap time by having the children bring their sleeping bags or flashlights, we will also go on a pretend bear hunt with our flashlights. For the week we read Beach Day the children will explore in colored sand and water with different types of sea shells to compare and use descriptive words to describe how they feel. During our last week together we will practice as many skills as we can each day to ensure our friends are well and ready to move up to the next class. Also we will have a Father’s Day celebration June 12. The children will work on a Father’s Day project this week and have it ready for their Fathers on
Friday. Our Ice Cream Social will be on the 17th. We will have a last day celebration with all of our Beginner 1 friends to celebrate our year together. We will put up a sign– up sheet as the day gets closer. Friday June 19th we are closed to get ready for the new school year. June 21st is the first day of the new school year. With the
warmer weather please makes sure your child has weather appropriate clothes and extra clothes in their cubby. Thank you for a wonderful year and we look forward to watching our friends grow each day.

Beginner 2 Classroom
Hello Beginner 2 parents.
The month of May was wonderful. We are now transitioning into the very short few weeks of June with our friends. Our Beginner II friends have accomplished so much this past year & we are looking forward to seeing our friends move on to the next level to broaden their minds. We are so honored to have worked with an outstanding group of children.
This month we will be making secret gifts for Father’s Day, & focusing on the new season of summer! The books we will be reading related to the summer season are “A Summery Saturday Morning, Beach Day & Zigby Camps Out”! To incorporate these fun books we will be having a beach day week. We hope all our friends come dressed in beach wear & even bring their beach towels. The children will use sea shells & other objects used at the beach to practice Math. We have a lot of fun summer activities coming our way.
Summer is here and we would like to remind our Beginner II parents to make sure they have clothes appropriate for the warm weather and sunscreen. We’ll have a week of trying yummy summer fruits! Our friends will not only eat yummy watermelon but also tell us the color, texture & smell of the watermelon. We thought it would be great for our friends to make lemonade. With all this summer talk we thought it would be great to have our friends focus on the letter S. The children will get the chance to make a list with their
teachers with different words that start with S. To incorporate the summer season in our Spanish we will have different pictures of the weather & encourage our friends to tell us how the weather feels. They will be asked questions like “Is it hot? Is it sunny?” Then we will encourage the children to answer //hace calor//It’s warm// //Hace sol// It’s sunny//. To end such a great year we will be having a party! We are so full of mixed emotions to see our friends move on but excited to see our friends grow!
-Ms. Jalisha, Ms. Kayla, Ms. Cindy, and Ms. Jo
Intermediate Classroom
Happy June Intermediate Families!
We cannot believe that the school year is almost over and our intermediate friends will be moving on to Pre-K classes. In the last few weeks of the school year we will be reviewing past social emotional and wellness skills as well as introducing new skills to help our friends have the best transition into the older classroom as possible. This month our book of the week includes Frog, which teaches the children how a tadpole turns into a frog. During this week the children will be able to observe real frogs and practice their writing skills by writing down what they observe the frogs doing in their environment. Our other book of the month Hooray, A Pinata will teach the children about pinatas and what they are used for. The children will work together to make a pinata for the last day of school.
June will be a busy fun filled month as we get ready to end our current year and start another fun filled learning year. Some important dates to remember in June are: June 1st is National Pen Pal day, we will celebrate this day by having the children write a letter to someone special in their lives and then sending the letter through the mail. June 12th is our Fathers Day celebration at 3pm, come join us for some Minute To Win It fun while celebrating all the special dads at Merryhill. June 17th is our Ice Cream Social where you can meet your child’s teachers for the upcoming school year. This is a great event that we look forward to each year. On June 18th we will be having our end of the year class party filled with water fun, healthy yummy food and breaking of the piñata the children made. We will be posting a sign-up sheet for some yummy snacks and small toys to go into the pinata.
A couple reminders, with the weather getting warmer please bring a water bottle/cup with your child to take with them during outside times. Also please provide at least two extra sets of weather appropriate clothing in case of accidents. If you would like sunscreen applied please fill out a sunscreen form in the front office and provide sunscreen with your child’s name written on it.
For our new parents, the last week of June which will be the first week in our new classes will be all about getting to know our new friends. The children will be getting to know each other, their new teachers and new classroom during this first week. We will be sending home a small project for you to do with your child to help us get to know your child, their likes and dislikes. We are looking forward to the new school year and cannot wait for all the fun filled learning we are going to have.
We are looking forward to a busy fun filled learning month with all our friends. If you have any questions please feel free to ask us, we will be more than happy to answer all of your questions.

June is here and that means the end of the school year is upon us. Since it is the end of the year we will be reviewing a lot of what they learned throughout the year in math, phonics, science and music and art. We will also be reviewing what to do when you get mad or have some strong feelings. We will continue to talk about the new classes they will go to and they can ask questions as to what their new class will be like and what their new teachers will expect of them. The first week of June we will have fun reading our favorite books and the students are encouraged to bring in their favorite book to school anytime that week. This class has really liked the funny books by Robert Munsch and they will have the chance to create their own Munsch style book.
We will be having a special Fathers Day Celebration on Friday June 12th at 3:00pm. We hope to see all dads there. Graduation is on June 18th and the students have been practicing hard.
