Letter From the Principal

Dear Parent,

It has been a real joy to watch the progress our students have made during the first half of this school year. It is so rewarding to watch every child at our school succeeding as an individual, while building confidence and academic skills. Now that we are almost halfway through the school year, it’s time to start planning to ensure that the next school year is just as successful. We have many plans to make the 2017-2018 school year rewarding and exciting at every grade level.

In recent years, you have seen how we, together with the Nobel Learning Education Department, are constantly working to integrate the latest research into our curriculum and teaching methods. I think you will see how the curriculum covers the entire core content areas, and becomes richer and more challenging each year. We will, of course, be continuing the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) projects. Beginning in Kindergarten, students experience STEAM education through projects that combine scientific and mathematical analysis with design processes of technology and engineering. Challenging and fun projects encourage collaboration, problem solving, decision making, creativity and innovation. Students work together to solve real problems, while developing a love of math and science.

During the 2017-2018 school year, we will continue incorporating an even greater emphasis on 21st Century Skills. We realize the use of the iPad as one of the many effective approaches available to support our school’s 21st Century Education mission points of collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. Going forward we will continue this effort to support student learning with 21st Century Education. These skills include life and career skills, learning and innovation skills, and information, media and technology skills.

With so many exciting educational initiatives happening here at Merryhill Elementary School-Summerlin, we want to make sure that our current families have the first priority to reserve places for next year. Please register for the 2017-2018 school year by February 1st. By doing so, you will receive $100.00 off your registration fee. Please return the entire Registration Packet, along with the Registration Fee, as soon as possible, or at least by February 1st, to take advantage of the $100.00 early bird registration discount. Applications must be completed each year and we thank you for your co-operation in this regard.

If you have any questions about the upcoming school year, please do not hesitate to call me or email me at Theresa.Gotay@nlcinc.com. On behalf of our entire faculty, I want to express our thanks for being part of our school community and tell you how excited we are to have your child back for the next school year.

Sincerely,

Theresa Gotay, Principal
