National Junior Honor Society at Midtown

Merryhill Midtown is proud to announce we are an official chapter of the National Junior Honor Society! This program is open to students in 6th-8th grade. This organization is a leader in educational organizations that promote recognition for students that have outstanding accomplishments in leadership, service, scholarship, citizenship, and character. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society can help lay the foundation for students to have a successful high school and college experience. Students gain 21st-century skills by participating in service projects and develop solid leadership skills. NJHS also assists members through webinars that focus on advance leadership skills, college admissions, and financial planning. Students also begin thinking about their future by attending a field trip to a college campus and are able to participate in LEAD conferences and other summits held in the summer.

Five main purposes guide the National Junior Honor Society: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter. Families of students who meet the scholar requirements will be sent an email invitation to apply for membership; upon receiving an offer to apply, students will have the opportunity to explain their accomplishments in the five outlined areas.

It is a privilege and honor to be a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Applications for membership will be reviewed by our school NJHS panel. All students whom accept membership will be inducted into the chapter. All details involving the exact selection process can be found in the Merryhill Midtown NJHS selection process document attached to this newsletter. Members of NJHS will be required to fulfill certain obligations. The major obligations include: attending monthly lunch meetings, maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher, keeping outstanding character/citizenship, paying dues/fees and volunteering in the community. All the details for membership obligations can be found in the chapter bylaws. We will send out invitations to apply for membership to the National Junior Honor Society on January 19th. We look forward to the kickoff of what will be an amazing chapter starting on this campus!
