School Caterers
Just a reminder that our school caterer will not be providing lunch from December 24, 2018 until Jan 4, 2019. Please bring lunch for your children during this time.
Celebrations
Celebrations help our students meet our learning component in “Community and Environment”. If you would like to share a family tradition with our students, please let us know. Embracing diversity is a social skill that will help our students in the long run when traveling or building friendships. We would like to thank all the parents who came to our Special Thanksgiving Dinner prepared by our students. We had spaghetti, salad, fruit salad, dessert, and bread. The classrooms all worked together to prepare the meal.
Operation Christmas Child
Every year our students talk about hunger and basic needs awareness. Our students collect basic needs items such as socks, shoes, clothing, toys, educational supplies, and etc. for a child in the same age group as themselves. They sort all the items during a “Packing Party” and pack enough to fill a shoebox for their international friends overseas. We would like to thank all the parents who helped participate in this event. The student collected over 75 boxes for children overseas. Please look for this amazing story in the Milpitas Post, Milpitas Patch, or the Mercury Newspaper during the month of December!

Christmas in the Park Tree Hunt
Address: 191-199 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95113
During our Thanksgiving Dinner, our families had a chance to decorate their own family ornament. The teachers then took these ornaments and decorated our Merryhill Preschool Tree at Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose, CA. We are challenging our students to go down to Christmas in the Park and find our tree. Snap a picture of your child next to our Merryhill School Corning Tree and email it to me at lucy.nunez@nlcinc.com. I will do a raffle with all the pictures I receive. The prize will be a $50 gift card. This will go through the end of December. Winners will be announced the first week in January 2019. Happy Hunting!
Bonus Tickets: Look for our Merryhill Elementary Yosemite Tree. Snap a picture of your child next to the Elementary Tree and get an extra chance to win the $50 gift card.

We will be starting this on Dec 3 through Dec 7 and Dec 17 through Dec 21. The timings will be from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (closed during naptime). Please look out for a flyer and a shopping list that will go home on Monday, Dec 3 with your child. Reading Program/Homework
Reading Program/Homework is meant to be a positive experience for your child. Its not mandatory to do the homework. The program was created for a social emotional development experience. Setting aside a specific time daily for your children reduces behavioral issues in the long run. We are just giving parents some activities to do during this time. Please set aside a 20-30 minutes per night for your Prek or Prek2 child and 10-20 minutes for Intermediates. If your child is refusing to practice writing, there are other alternatives; playdough, legos, setting up the table, folding laundry, helping to wash dishes, or clean off the dinner table. All these activities use their small motor skills and they are still building their muscles in their fingers. The book does not need to be read per verbatim. Have your child try and guess what is happening in the book. If your children want to talk with you about something this is also a good time to do so. Let us know if you are needing support.
Prek2 Uniforms
The bottoms can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or Durable wear uniforms and must be either navy blue or khaki.
