Snack Menu
Our “Wellness” curriculum component is using the following website at http://www.choosemyplate.gov/kids/ to ensure the nutrition of our students. Please look for our snack menu please let us know if you have any suggestions for our snack menu or would like recipes for home use.
Celebrations
Celebrations help our students meet our learning component in “Community and Environment”. If you would like to share a family tradition with our students, please let us know. Embracing diversity is a social skill that will help our students in the long run when traveling or building friendships.
Thank you for those parents who participated in our Pumpkin Patch last month, Fall Festival Parade and Puppet Show. Here are some pictures!
“Thanksgiving Parent Dinner”
For the Month of November, We would like to invite all of our parents to a special dinner prepared by our students on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Our students would like to thank their parents for all they have done all year for them. The school in conjunction with our students will provide and prepare the meal. Parents do not need to bring anything. A grandparent, aunt/uncle, or another extended family member can come if the parents can’t make it.
Operation Christmas Child
Every year our students talk about hunger and basic needs awareness. Our students collect basic needs items such as socks, shoes, clothing, toys, educational supplies, and etc. for a child in the same age group as themselves. They sort all the items during a “Packing Party” and pack enough to fill a shoebox for their international friends overseas. Last year they filled up 100 boxes (see stories at the bottom of the page). This year they have the same goal– 100 boxes. Please donate items into a huge box in the lobby area. There will be a list of items that can be donated. Collection dates are November 5–22, 2019.
Packing Party
Our packing party to prepare all the boxes will be on starting on Thursday, November 21 and ending Friday, November 22, 2019. We will be starting at 9 am each day until all the boxes are filled. Parents are welcomed to come and join us. All of these boxes will be sent to 3rd world countries that will be announced soon.

Christmas in the Park Fieldtrip for Prek2

During our Thanksgiving Dinner, Friday, November 15, 2019, our families will have a chance to decorate their own family ornament. The teachers will then take these ornaments and decorate our Merryhill Preschool Tree at Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose, CA on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 @ 1:00 pm.We are inviting parents in our Prek2 classroom to join us separately for this fieldtrip. However, any age group is welcomed to join us as long as their parents is with them.
“We will be closing the PreK2 class down at 12:00 pm so that Ms. Teresa and Mrs. Nidhi can go downtown and decorate the tree. “
We will have a signup in the front office of those parents who are willing to come down and decorate the tree. If you are a PreK2 family and can’t pick up your child at 12:00 pm, please let us know and we will combine them with our Intermediate 2 class.
*In our December Newsletter we will announce a challenge for our students that has to do with our Christmas in the Park Tree… Stay tuned!
Report cards and Parent Teacher Conferences
We will start passing out report cards starting Thursday, November 7, 2019. Parents will have an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher on Friday, November 8, 2019. A Parent/Teacher conference sign-up sheet is the parent lobby next to room 3. Please note that we will be closed for regular school on Friday, November 8, 2019 as we will be doing conferences.
We have some great information for parents. Report cards only inform parents of what teachers have observed. Therefore, we need parent feedback for the report cardson what has been observed at home so we can fully have an assessment of our student’s progress. We work in partnership with our parents and encourage parent participation. If you are not able to make it on this day, please let us know so we can schedule an alternate meeting.

Reading Program
Reading Program/Homework is meant to be a positive experience for your child. Its not mandatory to do the homework. The program was created for a social emotional development experience. Setting aside a specific time daily for your children reduces behavioral issues in the long run. We are just giving parents some activities to do during this time. Please set aside a 20-30 minutes per night for your Prek or Prek2 child and 10-20 minutes for Intermediates. If your child is refusing to practice writing, there are other alternatives; playdough, legos, setting up the table, folding laundry, helping to wash dishes, or clean off the dinner table. All these activities use their small motor skills and they are still building their muscles in their fingers. The book does not need to be read per verbatim. Have your child try and guess what is happening in the book. If your children want to talk with you about something this is also a good time to do so. Let us know if you are needing support.
Prek2 Uniforms
The bottoms can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or Durable wear uniforms and must be either navy blue or khaki. The tops must be purchased from Queensboro uniforms and can be light blue, hunter green, or burgundy. You can have items shipped here to avoid shipping charges. All students are required to wear uniforms in the Prek2 classroom Monday through Thursday. On Friday they get a free dress day. If you are planning to continue our Merryhill Elementary, it is recommended to purchase the burgundy shirts.
Genius Kids
They will be teaching our students how to play basketball. Please look for signups which will be sent via tadpoles sometime in January 2020.

hat our medication policy states that we can only administer medicine that has been prescribed by a doctor. We cannot administer over the counter medication without a doctor’s note with explicit instructions on how to administer it.
Regarding sunscreen, if you would like your child’s teacher to apply sunscreen throughout the summer months, please complete the “Sunscreen Authorization Form” located in the front office. We ask that you bring your child in their own sunscreen and apply a coat of sunscreen before they come to school. All sunscreen will be applied after nap unless noted differently by a parent.
