We understand that parents have many choices for their child’s education. From other prestigious local private schools to top-notch area public schools the competition is fierce. So what makes families choose Merryhill Elementary School and stay until their child graduates? The fact that so many great things can be found #OnlyAtSummerlin. Let us tell you more.
What is FIERCE?
From grade level luncheons to monthly pizza with our principals, we show appreciation to our students that embody FIERCE. Standing for fearless, innovative, enthusiastic, responsible, compassionate, and enlightened, students are nominated each month by teachers for being all of these things. To be a student at Merryhill Summerlin is to be FIERCE – to be brave in socialization, creative in approaching problems, excited about learning, careful in their choices, kind to all those around them, and open-minded about all the world has to offer.
Kids Heart Challenge
The Kids Heart Challenge at Merryhill Summerlin is about moving our bodies to better our minds and hearts, literally and metaphorically. Through this event, students get active through cardio challenges while also raising money to help children with heart defects. It is a learning experience in science, wellness, and kindness.
Spirit Shirts
Spirit Shirts are a chance for students to show school spirit while also giving back to the community in some way. On the last Friday of every month, students get to boast their school pride by dressing in spirit wear instead of their uniforms. In part, they also raise money for a cause of the month. This is especially significant because of the prevalent parent involvement with the school in coming up with ideas on who to donate to and how.
Community Outreach
Community engagement knows no bounds here at Merryhill Summerlin. Our students partake in many different service projects every year. Some recent projects include both our Preschool and Elementary schools collecting a total of 2000 pounds of food to donate to the Three Square Food Bank here in Las Vegas, helping homeless families and their pets through Street Dogs, and taking part in Walk for Wishes!
Field Trips
Field trips at Merryhill Summerlin combine a love for learning with growing to be curious thinkers. Field trips tie in their academic units in some way. This connects the classroom to the community and beyond. These trips away from school are all about experiential learning and see all the world has to offer them while also fostering a sense of independence.
Some of the great trips that our students get to take part in are learning about local Las Vegas history at the Neon Museum, the Hoover Dam, and Red Rock Canyon. Our 4th and 5th graders have gotten to visit Washington D.C., Williamsburg, and our capital Carson City. 2nd and 3rd grade connect their science units to their trips to the planetarium and Springs Preserve.
