Hello! I’m Julie Kirin, a First Grade teacher. This will be my fifth year at Merryhill, but I have more than 20 years of teaching experience in elementary school classrooms. More than half of it is in First Grade.
I love teaching First Grade. It’s actually my favorite grade. I love watching young minds blossom and become eager, curious, successful students. I am committed to helping my students understand the importance of education and building a strong foundation that supports a lifelong love of learning.
My husband and I moved to Las Vegas from Nashville, but I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. So, of course, I’m a huge Steelers fan – six Super Bowl victories and counting! Will I ever become a Raiders fan? Not in a million years.
When I’m not keeping track of my husband, Russ, and our three kitties, Rocky, Spunky and Twinkle, I love to bake, workout and read mystery novels. I enjoy exploring Las Vegas and discovering everything our new hometown has to offer.
Hello! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer break! My name is Julie Kirin and I would like to welcome you (and your child) to my First Grade class! I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you in the coming months.
This time of year can be very exciting and maybe even a little bit scary for everyone. For the children, First Grade is the first step in a journey of full-time, life-long learning. The first step is always a big one! Everything is strange and new and it takes a lot of courage just to walk through the door. For parents, it’s a time to step back and let your children begin to think and learn and grow on their own. Even if you have other school-age children, you never get used to the feeling of sending a little one off to First Grade!
This is my fifth year here at Merryhill Elementary. I have more than 20 years of teaching experience mostly in private and public schools. I have taught most of those years in Kindergarten and First Grade.
I love teaching. I love watching young minds blossom and become eager, curious, successful students. You can be confident that I will work hard to establish the skills and good study habits your children need to acquire and use knowledge effectively. Together we will prepare them for that life-long journey to education step by step by step.

The calendar stays in the Take Home Folder. It will show your child’s daily behavior.
The students now have the login information with their user id and password for First in Math. I have placed it inside the back cover of their Take Home Folder. It needs to stay there so that the children have it for home and school.
First in Math is required to be done at home 2-3 times a week for 10 minutes a session. The students will login click on Early(K2), click on the red dumb bell, whole numbers, the plus sign, and start with 1. The students will go from 1-12 in order. When all addition is complete, they will begin on subtraction and go from 1-12 again. When this is complete, I will assign the next goal.
The students will also be doing practice at school a few days a week
Folders need to come to school daily.
I want to wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday break! Enjoy family and friends. Enjoy making special memories with your little ones..
