Alexandra Santos - Fifth Grade

Welcome to 5th Grade with Ms. Santos. We are having a great year so far. Our class is kind, collaborative, inquisitive and perseveres through challenges!

5th Grade Current Topics:

  • Ecosystems, Food Webs, Community Gardens, Energy Pyramid, Photosynthesis and Hydroponics
  • The Writing Process, Creative Writing, Expository Writing, CER, Grammar and Peer-Feedback Cycles
  • Reading Non-fiction and Fiction texts, Annotating, Plot Diagram, Theme and Conflict
  • Place Values, Exponents, Comparing Decimals, Rounding Decimals, Computing Decimals

On the Horizon:

  • Unit on the novel, “Holes”
  • Computing, Manipulating and Representing Decimals
  • End of Unit One Community Garden Project

Homework FYIs:

  • Science Homework is distributed Wednesdays and due the following Monday, it is on paper and usually they only need their classwork or their own knowledge to complete the assignment
  • Social Studies Homework is assigned Tuesdays and Thursdays, typically due within 48 hours. It is posted on Schoology and submissions are also to Schoology.
  • In the second trimester, we may have homework in Math and Language Arts
