Hi! My name is Karyn Symes. I teach Elementary Spanish here at Merryhill Midtown. I have a BA in Spanish from Chico State and an MA in Mexican American Studies from San Jose State. I lived in Spain for 13 years, where I taught people of all ages and levels. After I returned from Spain I taught Spanish at a Community College in Santa Clara, CA for about 11 years.
My objective is to share my love of Spanish and Spanish speaking countries with my students, and provide them with Spanish language skills that they will take with them as they continue on their learning path.
I live in Woodland with my 17 year old Senior in High School, and our three dogs, Dexter, Mika and Kipper.

My love of the Spanish language, and my passion for learning about other cultures drove me to spend extended periods of time in Spain and Mexico, specifically Morelia (Michoacán), Mulegé (Baja California Sur), the Yucatan Peninsula, and traveling as far south as Chiapas. I even took a memorable trip to Cuba in 2006. Next on my list is to visit Costa Rica!
