Hello Midtown families! My name is Paul Kennedy and I’m in my 6th school year as the Merryhill Midtown Athletic Director.
In physical education I am excited to continue the framework in which our students can thrive, Houses of Achievement. The goal is to work towards competence and confidence in addition to the cooperation, camaraderie and commitment of a team. Students will also identify key leadership qualities and have the opportunity to hone these skills throughout the year.
I look forward to working to create an environment of age appropriate learning so your child can develop the necessary coordination and movement abilities that will provide the basis for all acquired technical skills. Beyond the National PE Standards and Grade Level Outcomes I really hope to develop students’ cognitive skills through creative exercises where the children must reason, process, analyze and ultimately make decisions.
Our school elementary years (K-5) are focused on students’ developing fundamental motor skills while Middle School grades (6-8) are focused on exploring more organized activities/games to help students identify areas of interest that they can pursue in more depth when they get to high school.
The goal is to provide a quality physical education program while fostering a love for physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. I believe that physical activity is a crucial part of child development; now more than ever.
