My name is Aaron Nakazawa and I will be your child’s 4th grade teacher here at Merryhill Elementary School. My college degree was in Elementary Education STEM, where my program had us go out and work at a public or a private school and we taught lessons our senior year along with taking our classes. After that, I spent a year working at VillaSports San Jose as a part of their VillaKids program, where I got to know lot of different children and lead them in activities and art projects. A fun fact about me is that I went to this exact school when I grew up as a kid, and it’s been fun seeing how much it has changed or stayed the same as I am now the teacher instead of a student.
I like to work in ways for the students to have fun while learning, because as the students are enjoying the lesson, they will start to remember more of what was done. Not only that, it can also help turn their attitudes’ or mindsets of not liking something to start at least liking the lessons. I always try my best to make sure that everyone understands what I say, and if not, I try to word it in different ways for the students to get what I am talking about. This way, the students have an easier time following along, rather than just staying lost and not knowing how things work.
The students will be working on “7 Habits of Happy Kids.” As a brief refresher, Happy Habits are where for a month, the students will learn about a specific habit that the students will try to show and improve on not only at schoo, but at home as well. Each month’s habit will be different, letting the students grow in various ways based on what the habit is. Along with that, the students will continue using the curriculum of Reading Street, Pearson Mathematics, STEMscopes, and a blended-learning social studies to challenge and develop the students’ skills.
I look forward to having your child come and be a part of our 4th grade family! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at Aaron.Nakazawa@nlcinc.com or call through the school’s phone number of (408) 254-1282.
