My name is Coach Lopez and this is my 4th year teaching Physical Education at Merryhill Elementary. I was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended Mountain View High School. After high school I enrolled at San Francisco State University and majored in Counseling/Sociology. In addition to my interest in Physical Education I also love to travel and have been to 8 countries and 8 states with my favorite country being Croatia and my favorite state being Hawaii.
This school year we will be learning the difference between individual and team tactics and their effect on team performance, benefits of warm-ups and cool-downs and their impact on the body. Team communication will also be highly stressed as it improves collaboration on the blacktop and in the classroom. This year’s sports activities will include basic self defense moves, Soccer, Dodgeball, Flag Football, Street Hockey, Archery, Basketball, Badminton, Kickball, Wiffle Ball, Yoga, Plyometrics, and Calisthenics. Besides our day-to-day physical activities we will also be having weekly health and wellness discussions that focus on basic hygiene, protecting our environment, proper nutrition and leadership skills.
I’m excited to see what this New Year brings and look forward to molding the next generation of young athletes.
