Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! My name is Saramma Philip, and I will be teaching one of the 4th grade classes this year. This is my seventh year at Merryhill School, and I am very excited to see what this year has in store for us! In 2004, I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BBA in International Business. Soon after, I pursued my Texas Teaching Certification. I have had over eleven years of experience as an educator, and I value the joys and challenges that have brought me this far.
What to Expect in Fourth Grade
Each year, my goal remains to create a safe and challenging learning environment. I am eager to continue working hard in providing the best possible educational experience for your child. This can be achieved with meaningful and varied instruction, by introducing critical thinking and collaborative skills, and by setting student goals. I have always, and will always, encourage my students to learn to be more independent, responsible, successful, and goal-oriented.
I plan to share, model, and encourage the practice of valuable life skills using Merryhill School’s character development program, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Throughout the year at Merryhill, we will also implement and practice Responsive Classroom, an approach that links academics with social-emotional learning. These lessons and approaches will stay with the students and give them the tools they need to communicate and have positive growth. I constantly strive to challenge my students with engaging curriculum, which includes STEMscopes, enVision Mathematics (Grade 5), Into Reading, and Studies Weekly.
In order to have an effective classroom, one where your child can succeed, I have clear rules and procedures in place. My hope is that we can work together to ensure that your child will have a great school year.
